This all-purpose cleaner is amazing. I cleaned our entire place with it this morning. I had just run out of this and i'm here to tell you, you can't tell the two apart. I decided on the peppermint castile soap, and i'd highly recommend it. It smells so good and refreshing. They sell it, along with a few others, at target and its on sale often. I'm looking forward to using it in more of my DIY cleaners.
All-purpose castile cleaner
Use on kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
2 teaspoons washing soda
4 teaspoons borax
1 teaspoon castile soap
4 cups hot water
10 drops of essential oil (I used tea tree, for its anti-bacterial properties)
and you'll obviously need a 32oz spray bottle.
Pour all ingredients into bottle and gently shake back and forth until the washing soda and borax has dissolved. Thats it!
Happy (safe) cleaning! and weekend too!

What exactly do you use the cleaner for? Is it safe on furniture or are you mostly using it to clean the kitchen, bathroom, etc?
ReplyDeletethanks for the "recipe"! i'll definitely have to make it!
ReplyDeletekim,
ReplyDeletei've been using it just about everywhere. i did some googling.. and it all the ingredients are safe to use on furniture (pet accidents, couch spills, ect), i would test a small hidden area first just to be sure.
i wouldn't recommend cleaning any wood furniture with it. the washing soda can strip the finish..
thanks for this recipe... looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis might be a silly question. Can you just leave the cleaner in the spray bottle? Or should you just make enough to use at once.
ReplyDeleteJenna,
ReplyDeletethe cleaner will last indefinitely in the bottle.
How interesting! I made home made laundry detergent to use at our new house, now I'm going to have to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in making these DIY cleaners. I have a question re: where to get essential oils. I'm thinking health food store but just thought I'd check. Love your website. So informative and fun and filled with great ideas. Thanks for sharing :-) Julie

I used this recipe to make homemade cleaning wipes. I also use Borax in my homemade dish washer detergent and homemade laundry detergent. Borax is my new best friend.
